Northern Pond

The northern pond is the end point in West Wichel’s drainage network with the ponds, swales and pipes transporting rainwater northwards into this attenuation feature. The pond holds water within the Wichelstowe development before discharging it slowly back into the river network. The water levels will therefore fluctuate depending on the season and the level of rainfall.

Please Be Water Safe around the ponds and lakes you find at Wichelstowe. You will find signs around the water hazards warning of the dangers and providing What Three Word locations if you need to quickly communicate your location.

The open field to the north east of the pond is owned by the Environment Agency and acts as a surface water storage area for the wider Swindon area following heavy rainfall.

There is a small dam in the pond near the outfall which aims to keep some water in the pond for the majority of the year.
