Wichelstowe Bird Monitoring Expands

Wichelstowe Bird Monitoring Expands

A second bird monitoring station is now live close to Kingfisher Island. This second monitor will help us to understand and record the range of birds that make Wichelstowe home. The second monitor is located adjacent to the pond and wetland area which should hopefully pick up different species to the first monitor located along the canal. Whilst building the boardwalk our ecologist Keystones contracting team have spotted Kingfishers and Egrets in the lake along with a family of geese (who have been tucking into the new marginal plants we’ve just planted!)

This year will also see the completion of a site wide breeding bird survey as part of our regular programme of surveys. This uses temporary monitors and the findings are verified by our ecologists. We’ll share the findings when they are available.

You can take a look at the Bird Weather website to see the new sensor results here Kingfisher Lake :: BirdWeather

A fangtastic new home for Wichelstowe’s bat population has been unveiled – a specially designed bat cave that forms part of a wider conservation effort in the area.

Now, the bats have a brand new, purpose-built replacement designed to recreate their lost habitat.

Two new litter pick stations have been installed at Wichelstowe, making it easier than ever for local residents to help keep the community looking its best.

The stations, located by the pond to the north of West Wichel and near the lakes in East Wichel, will provide easy access to litter picking equipment for anyone keen to get involved in maintaining the area’s green spaces and surroundings
