Wichelstowe Explorer Trail Day is a big hit with families

There’s still time to get out and about this summer and complete the Trail.

On Saturday 19th July, local families took up the challenge and became Wichelstowe Explorers for the day. The trail which can be completed on the Huntly app invites local residents to search for 12 different items found in the Wichelstowe area. Around 50 people visited the stall near the canal and received their official Explorer stickers before heading out on the hunt.

With most families finding the majority of items and a number collecting all 12 during the afternoon, prizes were awarded to all. With the trail taking in East, Middle and West Wichel there were also some tired legs at the end of the day. The younger explorers were however spurred on to win one of the hedgehog mascots which proved the days big hit.

The trail runs until September so why not try it yourself. Once you have collected all 12 items you can enter the prize draw through the app.

A fangtastic new home for Wichelstowe’s bat population has been unveiled – a specially designed bat cave that forms part of a wider conservation effort in the area.

Now, the bats have a brand new, purpose-built replacement designed to recreate their lost habitat.

Two new litter pick stations have been installed at Wichelstowe, making it easier than ever for local residents to help keep the community looking its best.

The stations, located by the pond to the north of West Wichel and near the lakes in East Wichel, will provide easy access to litter picking equipment for anyone keen to get involved in maintaining the area’s green spaces and surroundings
